Instructor: Matt Gerard – Matt is a 13 year police veteran, most of which was spent while participating with the local, multi-jurisdictional SWAT team, where he serves as an entry team member, as well as sniper team leader, and was also a member of the ILEAS WMD SRT. Matt is also the department’s master firearms instructor with advanced training in handgun and rifle tactics.
Course Description: The defensive carbine or sporting rifle is one of the most misunderstand tools in the world today. It is often demonized as an assault weapon, when reality, is nothing more than a semi automatic rifle. In this class you are going to learn how run your defensive carbine, and how to provide accurate and controlled fire on target in a variety of distances and positions. At the completion of this class, you’ll have a fundamental knowledge of use of force, and the operation of your carbine that you can use as the building blocks for casual shooting, competition, or personal defense.

Required Equipment, to be brought to class the first day for inspection by the instructor
– Carbine or sporting rifle in good working order
– Tactical Sling
– 3 magazines
– Magazine pouches
– 400 rounds of quality ammunition
– Eye protection
– Ear protection (preferably electronic)
– Appropriate clothing for the weather
– closed toe shoes
– long pants
– tight neck shirt
– Hat with a brim
– Bag lunch
